Meet Ronald Penton: Candidate for Planning and Zoning Alternate
Ron Penton brings over 27 years of service to North Haven through a wide range of town commissions and community organizations. His extensive record includes:
-
Economic Development Commission – 1 year
-
Conservation Commission – 4–5 years
-
Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission (IWWC) – 11–12 years
-
Planning & Zoning Commission – 6 years
-
Founder & President, North Haven Trail Association – 4 years
Ron first became involved in local government shortly after moving to North Haven in 1987. His years on Planning & Zoning and Inland Wetlands gave him deep insight into how thoughtful, balanced decision-making can protect the town’s character while allowing for responsible growth.
In 2023, Ron worked alongside environmental advocate Nancy Alderman to successfully oppose an application that would have allowed contaminated fill to be imported to the Celevon property for a project. This victory reignited his passion for serving the town’s best interests.
Professionally, Ron’s career spans 15 years in oceanography at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, where he specialized in mapping the sea floor for scientists and engineers. After relocating to Connecticut, he spent more than three decades in the construction industry as a project manager, gaining hands-on expertise in site development and land use — experience that gives him a practical understanding of applications brought before Planning & Zoning and Inland Wetlands.
Ron is committed to applying his knowledge, integrity, and long-standing dedication to the community as a Planning & Zoning Alternate, ensuring North Haven’s development decisions are transparent, balanced, and in line with the town’s long-term vision.
