NORTH HAVEN, CT – The North Haven Democratic Town Committee (NHDTC) has issued a strong statement condemning President Donald Trump and his allies for their continued use of division, fear, and misinformation to distract from the real issues affecting American families.
“We are alarmed by the unparalleled attack on democracy, the constitution, and the rule of law by President Donald Trump and his allies. His administration and campaign are using his first few weeks in office to attempt to fundamentally dismantle democratic institutions, purge nonpartisan government personnel, redefine citizenship, expand inhumane detention policies, vilify hard working immigrants, shut down government agencies, fire watchdogs, and pardon the terrorists who attacked our Capitol on January 6th, 2021. Together, this constitutes a power grab the likes our nation has never seen. It is clear that President Trump intends to further use his power to target marginalized communities, scapegoat vulnerable groups, and undermine the principles of equality and justice. His economic policies prioritize corporations and big business interests, putting American workers and small businesses at risk of further hardship, and his foreign policy goals are reckless with national security and undermine democratic sovereignty. Furthermore, his executive orders attempt to subvert Federal law, and impose punitive damages that undermine Connecticut's own laws, democracy, and financial health.
While we are disappointed that North Haven's state level leadership has been silent about the President's repeated executive overreach, harmful policies and divisive rhetoric, the North Haven Democratic Town Committee remains committed to fairness, inclusion, economic opportunity, and the protection of democracy. We are committed to keeping our members informed and engaged, ensuring that all North Haven residents have the tools and resources to push back against this assault on our rights and our freedoms. We commit ourselves to organizing community efforts that will help mitigate the harm being done by this administration, ensuring that our positive vision is represented and reflected at all levels. We will continue to support efforts to elect leaders who uphold the values of democracy.”
