Resolution
North Haven Democratic Town Committee
Calling for an End to the “ICE age”
WHEREAS, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) is an agency started in 2003, and is actively younger than the vast majority of the members of the North Haven Democratic Town Committee
WHEREAS, I.C.E agents in Minneapolis have publicly murdered Renee Nicole Macklin Good, who was acting as a legal observer of I.C.E. activities, and C.B.P, agents operating as part of largescale I.C.E. operations murdered Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an ICU nurse rushing to the aid of a woman I.C.E. threw to the ground, his last words being “Are you okay?”
WHEREAS, Renee Good’s murderer, Jonathan Ross, was a firearms instructor who was wearing a body camera at the time of the incident, and neither his extensive training nor his use of a body camera prevented Renee Good’s death at the hands of Ross
WHEREAS, I.C.E. detained preschooler Liam Conejo Ramos to use the 5-year-old child as “bait” in order to gain access to his home before detaining the child and his father and sending them to a facility over 1,000 miles from their home.
WHEREAS, I.C.E. has a history systematic sexual abuse, including child sexual abuse.
WHEREAS, I.C.E. has forced women to undergo nonconsensual surgeries
WHERAS, I.C.E. detained over 3800 children in 2025 and has deported many children, including cancer patients
WHEREAS, Ninety percent of Immigrants are being detained in private, for-profit prisons, which are unaccountable to public taxpayers and have a vested stake in increasing detention. Private prison companies like the Geo Group (for whom Attorney General Pam Bondi is a former lobbyist) and CoreCivic have seen profits and stock prices rise, and have been awarded handsome no-bid contracts by the federal government.
WHEREAS, I.C.E. has routinely denied medicine and medical treatment to those detained in their custody, resulting in severe adverse health outcomes, including deaths.
WHEREAS, Only 5% of those arrested by I.C.E. have had a prior violent crime conviction and 73% have had no criminal conviction whatsoever
WHEREAS, I.C.E. is routinely arresting documented American citizens
WHEREAS, I.C.E. has arrested students using their first amendment rights to criticize U.S. foreign policy
WHEREAS, I.C.E. agents are claiming to maintain a database of protestors and designating them as “domestic terrorists”
WHEREAS, I.C.E. has been given the unprecedented authorization to enter homes without a judicial warrant
WHEREAS, I.C.E. has breached courthouses in Connecticut in violation of the TRUST Act
WHEREAS, I.C.E. has occupied Minneapolis for several weeks, causing everyday working people to be afraid to go to work, send their children to school,or walk down the street without being harassed, arrested, or deported.
WHEREAS, despite the atmosphere of terror, thousands of Minnesotans have risen up and demanded ICE leave their community, echoed by thousands of solidarity protests and vigils across the country, including launching massive work shutdowns and slowdowns
WHEREAS, as long as I.C.E. continues to receive federal taxpayer money, it will continue to terrorize our communities and operate under a mandate from a President and a Department of Homeland Security Secretary whose explicit goals are retaliation against their political enemies, racist scapegoating of the immigrant population, and suppression of free speech
AND
WHEREAS, human life has intrinsic value and it is the duty of law enforcement to uphold the rights and safety of all individuals, as well as protect the constitution of the United States of America
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the North Haven Democratic Town Committee condemns in the strongest terms the actions described above
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the North Haven Democratic Town Committee calls upon its national legislators to
-
Do everything within their power to immediately remove I.C.E. from Minneapolis and other major cities as soon as possible
-
Begin articles of impeachment for Attorney General Pam Bondi, Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and President Donald J. Trump
-
Launch an investigation and file charges against those responsible for the deaths of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Keith Porter Jr., and anyone else who has been killed, harmed or abused by I.C.E or within I.C.E. custody.
-
Immediately cease the use of Department of Homeland Security funds for family detention
-
Reinstate the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution and stop at once warrantless searches of homes and other protected spaces such as Connecticut’s schools and courthouses
-
See to it that Immigrations and Customs Enforcement be completely defunded, dismantled, and replaced by a more humane method of immigration naturalization that emphasizes compassion and dignity. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (I.N.S.) existed for 70 years before it was replaced by I.C.E. America prides itself on being the melting pot, a land of immigrants, and a place where diversity is our strength. This is a nexus point for writing the next chapter to this story: one that doesn’t compromise our security while recognizing that the American dream only functions when it is accessible to all who wish to pursue it in good faith and who wish to share their good contributions with Americans.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the North Haven Democratic Town Committee calls upon its state legislators to
-
Enforce Connecticut State Law, including the Trust Act, and work to strengthen it to provide the strongest protections possible for civil liberties
-
Hold ICE and other federal officers accountable for any misconduct that takes place in the state of Connecticut, including passing legislation that allows residents to sue federal agents who violate their constitutional or civil rights
-
Support other legislation that prevents extrajudicial arrest, respects the rule of law, strengthens and protects our voting processes, avoids any targeting of political enemies by the executive branch, and establishes Connecticut as a safe space for immigrants, non-immigrants, and families to live.
