Meet Alden Mead: Candidate for North Haven Police Commission

A lifelong public servant, decorated veteran, and globally respected academic leader, Alden Mead is seeking re-election to the North Haven Police Commission. With decades of experience in healthcare, law, military service, and civic engagement, Alden brings a principled, compassionate, and justice-driven approach to public safety and community leadership.

Currently serving in his second full term on the Police Commission, Alden has consistently prioritized equitable policing, transparency, and the protection of civil rights for all North Haven residents. He believes deeply in a democracy that balances strength with understanding, and justice with empathy.

Alden is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Yale School of Medicine and Associate Director of Yale’s Section of International Ophthalmology, where he continues to work on global eye care initiatives. He has also served as CEO and Director of Clinical Operations for major ophthalmology practices and has worked in more than a dozen countries building sustainable healthcare partnerships.

His long and distinguished career includes service as:

  • Chair of the North Haven Democratic Town Committee

  • Board Member, State of Connecticut Board of Examiners for Opticians

  • U.S. Army Veteran (Vietnam, 1st Cavalry Division) and former Police Officer

  • Founding Member, Vietnam Veterans Against the War (CT Chapter)

  • Affordable Housing and Blight Commission Member, Town of North Haven

  • Former Candidate for State Representative, 87th District

  • Longtime advocate for immigration justice and refugee resettlement (IRIS)

With a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut and decades of academic and civic experience, Alden’s leadership is informed by both practical service and philosophical conviction. He champions public safety that is fair, community-focused, and free from political ambition.
