This meeting will shape decisions about three critical projects that will impact our town’s infrastructure and quality of life. Your vote matters—come and make your voice heard!

What’s on the Agenda?

View the official notice here. We broke it down and removed the legal language.

The town will discuss and vote on three major resolutions, each involving the issuance of municipal bonds or notes to finance these important projects. Here’s a breakdown:

  1. Milling and Paving of Town Roadways

    • Proposed Funding: $2.8 million in bonds or notes.

    • This project covers milling and paving for 7.4 miles of road in North Haven. Typically, the town paves 10 miles per year, but rising costs forced us to skip milling and paving last year.

    • See the discussion at the Board of Selectman meeting here.

  2. Repairs and Improvements to Town Buildings

    • Proposed Funding: $450,000 in bonds or notes.

    • Focused on repairing and improving roofs and other structural elements of key town buildings, including the Walter Gawrych Community Pool, this project ensures our facilities remain safe and functional for residents.

    • See the discussion at the Board of Selectman meeting here.

  3. Acquisition of Refuse Containers and Equipment

    • Proposed Funding: $1.25 million in bonds or notes.

    • This would provide two new refuse containers per household (one for waste and one for recycling). The goal is to improve operational efficiency, reduce recycling waste blown onto streets, and lower workers’ compensation claims.

    • See the discussion at the Board of Selectmen meeting here.

Why Should You Attend?

Municipal bonds and notes are a way for the town to fund projects, much like taking out a mortgage. These investments impact our daily lives—whether it’s the condition of our roads, the safety of our public buildings, or the efficiency of waste management. By attending the meeting, you’ll:

  • Learn more about how these projects will affect you and your neighbors.

  • Voice your opinion and influence how funds are allocated.

  • Vote on these resolutions to shape the future of North Haven.

What Are Municipal Bonds and Notes?

Municipal bonds and notes are tools used by towns to finance public projects. By issuing these, the town borrows money from investors and repays it over time with interest. This allows us to fund improvements today without immediate tax hikes. Here are the basics:

  • Bonds: Used for long-term projects like roadways and buildings.

  • Notes: Used for short-term needs, like managing cash flow during a project.

How to Prepare for the Meeting

  • Review the proposed projects and funding details above.

  • Consider how these changes align with your priorities for the town.

  • Come ready to listen, ask questions, and share your perspective.

This is your opportunity to have a say in how North Haven invests in its future. Whether you support these resolutions or have concerns, your participation ensures that every voice is heard. We hope to see you on January 7th at Town Hall!
